Road traffic injuries are the eighth leading cause of death globally, and the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-29. Strategies exist that are proven to reduce road traffic injuries and a number of countries have successfully used these strategies to reduce their road traffic deaths. The report shows that there has been no overall reduction in the number of people killed on the world’s roads, however, this plateau should be considered in the context of a corresponding 15% global increase in the number of registered vehicles.
