Recent snapshot surveys of research institutions in the African and Asian regions have revealed some significant gaps in the contracting and contract management capacity of low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institutions in these regions. Improving research contracting capacity in LMICs is not merely a matter of fairness. It is key to developing a thriving research and innovation sector in LMICs, which will advance sustainable health, equity and development.
