Meeting Reports: Social Protection and Food Security – What Works? – Empirical Evidence

The link between food security and social protection is emphasised in a recent report of the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and in a study of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) hosted an Expert Meeting on 10 July in Bonn, Germany to present the findings of those studies

Objective of the Expert Meeting was to assess both the conceptual approaches and practical instruments of linking rural development with social protection and the subsequent impacts on strengthening food and nutrition security. Besides, opportunities and challenges for the German Development Cooperation within these important cross-sectoral strategies against hardship and hunger were also explored.
