This toolkit aims to serve as a quick reference guide to help TB care providers deliver brief tobacco interventions as part of their routine practice in primary care. The 5As (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange) summarize all the activities that a TB care provider can do to help a tobacco user within 3−5 minutes in a primary care setting. The 5 R’s – relevance, risks, rewards, roadblocks, and repetition – are the content areas that should be addressed in a motivational counselling intervention to help those who are not ready to quit.
