A Briefing Paper on the Framework Convention on Global Health (FCGH)

June 2014

5 pp. 188 kB:

The Framework Convention on Global Health (FCGH) is a proposed global health treaty that would be based in the right to health and aimed at closing national and global health inequities. By one measure, such inequities are responsible for nearly 20 million deaths, or more than one in three, every year. The FCGH would complement the UN Sustainable Development Goals now being developed by establishing effective governance and accountability to the health and related goals. The treaty would go beyond existing treaties that affirm the right to health by enhancing implementation, providing the pathways to realize this right, and responding to finance, trade, and other globalized determinants of health.
