WASH FIT is an adaptation of the water safety plan (WSP) approach, which is recommended in the WHO Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality as the most effective way of ensuring continuous provision of safe drinking-water. The overall aim of using WASH FIT is to improve and sustainably maintain WASH services in health care facilities. Such services are a fundamental element of infection prevention and control, ensuring staff, patient and visitor safety, upholding universal rights to water and sanitation and ultimately providing people-centered care that fulfills the aim of quality universal health coverage (UHC).
