European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and WHO’s Regional Office for Europe, November 2017
Europe is the world’s only region to report a rise in new HIV infections, with 160,000+ people newly diagnosed in 2016. Eastern Europe, with 80% of the newly diagnosed cases, is fuelling the alarming pace. Pointing to late diagnosis in more than half (51%) of the reported cases as one reason, the ECDC and WHO call for improved testing.
